EHCLA elects three new members to Board of Directors

(BATON ROUGE, La.)- The Environment and Health Council of Louisiana has elected four members to its Board of Directors, increasing the board to 20 members.

Dr. Stephania Cormier, Anna Johnson, Kelley Kemp, and Mark Pankey joined the board at the recommendation of existing board members. The Board of Directors unanimously approved their membership.

Dr. Cormier is Associate Vice President for Health & Human Security with the Office of Research and Economic Development and Wiener Chair and Professor of Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University. She is also the director of the LSU Superfund Research Center, which supports university-based scientists, engineers, and public health workers in decreasing the environmental health effects of hazardous waste sites across the nation. Her research interests include respiratory immunology and toxicology. 

Johnson is the director of communications and legislative affairs for the Louisiana Department of Conservation and Energy. She manages all internal and external communications for the agency along with establishing, developing, and maintaining effective working relationships with major stakeholders. Johnson previously served as President of the West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce. 

Kemp is an account executive at IEM (Innovative Emergency Management), one of the nation’s leading disaster management and federal funds management firms. She serves as the strategic business development lead for homeland security, emergency management, critical infrastructure, and technology solutions. Kemp has been a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard since 2013 and was previously a member of the Kansas Army National Guard.

Pankey is the senior director of development for Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation. He works with donors, foundations, corporate partners, and community leaders to support research focused on obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dementia, cancer, precision nutrition, and healthy agency. He also serves as Chair of First Tee of East Baton Rouge Parish, an organization dedicated to developing character, leadership, and life skills in young people.

Every year the Board of Directors plans a conference based on current health and environment issues impacting Louisiana.
