The Environment and Health Council of Louisiana approved and inducted several members of the community to join the Board of Directors. The E&HCL expanded by five members in three months.

Dr. Charles “Chip” Groat, Sarah Gillen, Lacy McManus, Gretchen Ladner and Dr. Amanda Vincent joined the board at the recommendation of existing board members. The Board of Directors must vote on potential members.

Dr. Groat is a research professor at Louisiana State University. He is also the acting director and state geologist for the Louisiana Geological Survey at LSU.

Gillen is the chief operating officer at the Louisiana Public Health Institute. Before joining the LPHI in 2015, she worked for the National Network of Public Health Institutes.

McManus is the Director of Program Development for Greater New Orleans, Inc., the economic development alliance serving the 10-parish region in Southeast Louisiana.

Ladner is a technology evangelist with General Informatics, a technology planning and implementation company in Baton Rouge.

Dr. Vincent is the environmental scientist manager for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. She began working for the DEQ in 2007.

Prospective members can email the E&HCL at [email protected] or visit www.ehcla.org for more information about joining the Council. The Board of Directors manages the operations of the E&HCL and discusses health and environment issues related to Louisiana. Every year the Board of Directors plans a conference based on current health and environment issues impacting Louisiana.

This year’s conference focuses on water management. Water: Managing Louisiana’s Valuable Resources is an information transfer forum that provides updates on urgent water management topics. The conference will take place at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center on Nov. 2, 2017. To register for the conference search E&HCL on the Eventbrite website.

The Environment and Health Council of Louisiana is a nonprofit organization founded in 1983 to facilitate independent, balanced and factual assessments of health issues related to the environmental and economic well-being of Louisiana. The organization is governed by a voluntary board of directors from businesses, government and academic industries across the state. For more information about the E&HCL, visit www.ehcla.org.
